چکیده
The US Gulf of Mexico coastal region has repeatedly been subjected to major flood events. Local geotechnical site characteristics and geomorphology can change due sediment transport processes during such However, field measurements extreme conditions are challenging. This paper discusses initial attempts at a combined geophysical investigation the uppermost layers riverbeds following severe flooding events three different rivers in Texas: Guadalupe, Brazos, Colorado Rivers terms strength derived from portable free fall penetrometer, backscatter intensity recorded by chirp sonar, soil sample characterization. On September 14, 2017, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported that Hurricane Harvey had caused 82 deaths in Texas during August 25–August 30, 2017 (1), with property damage that could total $180 billion (2). Houston alone received 45 inches of rain from August 24 to September 1, 2017, and some parts of Texas received 60 inches or more. Dozens of inches of rain also fell o...
متن کاملConstruction and use of an inexpensive, lightweight free-fall penetrometer: applications to paleolimnological research
This paper describes the construction of an inexpensive, lightweight, free-fall lake sediment penetrometer with application to paleolimnological research. This penetrometer is suitable for use in a variety of fresh water lake settings. Data are collected on a laptop PC, Palm OS handheld, or a Texas Instruments handheld data collection unit and are analysed using commercially available software....
متن کاملChirp Scale Processing for Imaging Sonar
Imaging the sea floor using high precision sonar is at the stage where the efficiency and robustness are of concern. Synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) has the appealing property of range and frequency independent spatial resolution. SAS data’s are more challenging to process than the conventional counterparts, because the towfish is more complicated and usually non stationary. Time domain algorith...
